ENGLISH 7
English 7 is a language arts class which focuses on a variety of skills such as reading, writing, listening, presenting, vocabulary, and grammar usage. Teaching methods include video and audio recordings, reading, live class teaching, and discussion posts. The goal is for students to see language as a source of creativity and joy. It is a way to express who we are and what God has done for each of us. All work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online. Students will need to borrow or purchase two novels for study in this course–The Miracle Worker and The Bronze Bow –as well as two books of choice. There is no other required textbook for this course.

MATH 7
In this StudyForge-based curriculum, students will continue their study of mathematics. During the year, Math 7 students will explore, learn, and practice such concepts as decimals and fractions, linear relations, Cartesian planes, 2 and 3D geometric figures, probability, operations with integers, and financial literacy. Math 7 includes ten chapters with 2-6 lessons each. Each lesson includes teaching videos and practice questions. At the end of each chapter, students will complete a mastery assignment and submit all chapter notes and work before taking an online test to assess their knowledge acquisition. All work and assessments are available and are submitted online. No textbook is required. Students will be asked to complete and present three projects over the course of the year.

SCIENCE 7
Science 7 is divided into four curriculum areas which the students will explore throughout the year. In biology, students will explore biodiversity in their local ecosystems as well as a variety of organisms and their adaptations. Our earth science unit delves into climate and the environment. The periodic table plays a large role in the chemistry unit which explores pure substances and compounds through various experiments conducted at home. The Science 7 physics unit is sparking with electricity as students explore the pros and cons of different types of energy production and how they work. All work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online. No textbook is required.

SOCIALS 7
In Socials 7, students will continue to explore cultures around the world. Students study a chronological and cultural approach to culture, history, geography, economics, religion, and governments around the world. These topics will be studied from a Christian worldview while developing critical thinking skills. Students will study a variety of primary source readings and use of a variety of maps. The e-text or paper textbook World Studies (4th ed. BJUP) will be a required purchase for this course. Prior to class, the teacher will advise on links and information for purchase. All work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online.

ART III Visual Arts
(Optional Add-on or Stand-Alone Course)
Separate from the 7th Grade Core, the ART III is a visual arts, middle grade elective course. In this course, we will focus on elements of drawing, line, perspective, shading, etc. Students will be introduced to basic drawing and sketching techniques to expand their artistic abilities. They will become better at documenting things around them and from their imagination on paper as well as other mediums. This class will include Masterpiece Studies, where we explore and mimic the work of great artists, Technique Projects, where we work on developing a particular artistic skill, and Art just for Fun, with projects that are intended to maintain engagement and enthusiasm. Students will be responsible for obtaining all class materials, including various art supplies (Full list will be provided to each family before class starts.) This class may be taken as a stand-alone course or paired with our Middle School Core (at a tuition discount). Students in this course may opt to receive a grade or simply audit the course. All work, projects, and assessments for the course are submitted online. No texbook is required. Art III live class is on alternating weeks throughout the school calendar, a 15-week course. Course availability subject to enrollment.

MUSIC III Beginner Music and Piano Basics
(Optional Add-on or Stand-Alone Course)
Music III is a continuation of the Middle Grades Music Courses; however, no prerequisites are required for this class. In this class, students will learn to play the piano/keyboard. Both note reading and ear training will be covered during the class. Students will learn basic music theory such as identifying rhythms, reading notes on the treble staff, and fingering for the keyboard. Music history will also be included with the study of composers and historical periods of music. Students will be required to practice their instrument each week. Students will be required to have access to a full size electronic keyboard or a piano, a metronome or metronome app, and a textbook (TBA). Each student is responsible to purchase the required textbook for the class. This class may be taken as a stand-alone course or paired with our Middle School Core (at a tuition discount). Students in this course may opt to receive a grade or simply audit the course. All work, projects, and assessments for the course are submitted online. Music III live classes are scheduled every other week during the BAO school year for a 15-week course.
