Social Studies 9 – 12

GEOGRAPHY:
Travel the world in 9th Grade without even packing a suitcase. This geography course offers a survey of the principles of geography in countries from each continent. Students will study physical geography, culture, landforms, climates, resources, economy, religions, and government of each continent studied. Cultural Geography Student Text (4th ed., BJUP, e-text) will be provided, and all work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online. Students are required to purchase Cultural Geography Student Activities Manual (4th edition) from Bob Jones University Press for use in the course.

HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES:
From settlement to the Trump presidency, this course covers the history of our nation. Students will look at the events, movements, document, decisions, and peoples that have shaped the United States from a biblical worldview. They will also be guided in critical thinking and problem solving processes to propose some possible solutions to some of the social problems our country is facing today. Students will need to borrow or purchase one book of required reading for each quarter. The e-text United States History (5th ed., BJUP) will be provided to each student enrolled in the course. All work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online. Students are required to purchase United States History Student Activities Manual (5th ed.) from Bob Jones University Press for use in the course.

WORLD HISTORY:
In this course students will examine how events from creation to the present have shaped our world. We will explore topics such as ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Reformation. Students are required to purchase World History Student Activities (5th edition) from Bob Jones University Press for use in the course.

US GOVERNMENT (1/2 Credit):
This 1/2 credit course explores the origins and workings of the democratic government of the United States. Students will use primary sources to understand the fundamentals, systems, and processes of how the American government should operate. Students will delve into the last four centuries of American democracy from a biblical perspective. The e-text American Government (4th ed., BJUP) will be provided to each student enrolled in the course. All work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online. ECONOMICS (1/2 Credit):
Economics is the study of production, consumption, and transfer of wealth. In this course, students will be introduced to and will explore many economic topics and principles from personal buying to national debt. Students will learn about the stock market and economic policy, but each chapter also brings the concepts closer to home, exploring basic budgeting, banking, debt, credit and interest. The e-text Economics (3rd ed., BJUP) will be provided to each student enrolled in the course. All work, projects, and assessments are available and are submitted online. Students are required to purchase Economics Student Activities Manual (3rd ed.) from Bob Jones University Press for use in the course.
